Fugitives

Beyond routine and rent collection, 

surfers wade in waves without knowledge of what is below. 

Below beaten boards, 

twelve thousand feet of prehistoric creatures lurk 

in shipwrecks and floating landfills. 

Until contaminated water ruins lives, 

a prominent climate denier will boast of 

promotions on Fox News. 

And films like “Look Up” will mimic 

sirens serenading OJ on the five freeway. 

The whole world is watching 

its own destruction. 

But we have time to admit we are fugitives and 

rehabilitate, together.
