I Wish

by Madeline Johnson

You look at me

The way you always have.

I look at you

the way I wish you’d look at me.

I want to believe your eyes

find me

when I’m lost in something else -

someone?

I wish

On stars that hear my pleas about

As much as you do

City light drowns stars.

You’ve always

loved that city.

- you don’t see me, I can’t breathe
